Free registration for the Xplore Health’s new online course "Approaching the biotechnological revolution in the classroom" opens today. The course will be taught in Spanish and it is aimed at high school and vocational training teachers from all over Spain. The Ministry of Education recognizes this course, which consist on 60 hours and starts on October 9, 2017.
This training activity includes a scientific update, with sessions led by researchers and entrepreneurs doing research in this field, a wide variety of multimedia tools and discussion games on ethical aspects of biotechnologies, and educational materials to bring the latest research advances in the classroom, through competence learning and didactic innovation. The course is organized jointly by the promoters of Xplore Health, IrsiCaixa and the "La Caixa" Foundation, with the collaboration of the Consejo General de CDL.
During the course, participants will work on topics such as the applications of biotechnologies in the biomedical industry, the related ethical, legal and social aspects, and the principles of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), which provides new co-creation methodologies. They will also be invited to apply didactic innovation in their proposals for activities for the classroom, enriching activities with project based learning, inquiry, group dynamics and formative evaluation.
In total, 30 teachers are expected to participate in this course. It will include presentations by Luis Ruiz, President of Spherium Biomed; Josep Santaló, Professor of Cell Biology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and member of the Bioethics and Law Observatory at the University of Barcelona. Alex Lopez Duran, secondary school teacher and pedagogical coordinator at the Escola Garbí Pere Vergés d’Esplugues will facilitate the online platform.
